So excited to be back just in time for the 2016 Outfit Along!<br />
<br />
If you haven't heard of it yet, the idea is to join awesome hosts<a href="https://lladybird.com/2016/05/15/announcing-the-2016-outfit-along/" target="_blank"> Lladybird</a> and <a href="http://untangling-knots.com/2016/05/15/oal-2016/" target="_blank">Untangling Knots</a> in a mass sew/knit along. This year the the two suggested patterns are Sewaholic's <a href="http://www.indiestitches.com.au/collections/all-patterns/products/hollyburn-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Hollyburn Skirt </a>and Andi Satterlund's new top pattern, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zinone" target="_blank">Zinone</a> - but in the spirit of slow-fashion and consciously made wardrobes, it's encouraged to make an outfit you know you'll wear and love.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This year I'm trying to put more thought into my makes and purchases, and I've found that sketching things out before diving into a project makes a massive difference! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2syERDERFmk/Vz_IEGlMGuI/AAAAAAAADhI/uaGAgYAI-ew-G3mSIb5lfQeGCBgFEoQjwCLcB/s1600/zinoneplanning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="auto" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2syERDERFmk/Vz_IEGlMGuI/AAAAAAAADhI/uaGAgYAI-ew-G3mSIb5lfQeGCBgFEoQjwCLcB/s640/zinoneplanning.jpg" width="680" /><br />

<br />
<h4>
The Plan</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
Zinone Top in neutral linen.<br />
<br />
Loose-fitting crop top + Linen = Me.<br />
As soon as I saw the cropped version of the Zinone pattern I was in. Three skeins of <a href="http://quinceandco.com/collections/yarn/products/sparrow-yarn-linen" target="_blank">Quince & Co. Sparrow</a> linen are on their way to my doorstep as we speak. I fell in love with 'sans' which is actually the un-dyed colour of the linen. I already know it's going to go with everything and it's so exciting ahhh!<br />
<br />
<h4>
The Skirt</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
A self-drafted mini pencil-skirt in cotton sateen.<br />
This skirt has been in the back of my brain for over a year, and the two amazing sateens pictured have been sitting in my stash for almost as long. I'm still tossing up whether to use just one or both.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/untangling-knots/3430660/1-25" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HvDaCzkRiWM/Vz_X-Z400yI/AAAAAAAADho/Lax7t-0vZ3U_8XWOVD4qxGUA1F-I_GyFQCLcB/s400/oal_banner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
#OAL2016 starts on June 1st, so if you're thinking about joining in there's still time.<br />
<br />
If you're already in, I'd love to hear your plans !<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How many of us really know our own voice?</div>
<br />
If you're a blogger, you'll probably agree that this was one of the biggest hurdles when you first decided to share your thoughts with the world. If you're an aspiring blogger who has not yet taken the plunge, this might be one of the things holding you back. If you allow it, it's so easy to fall down the rabbit hole of self-doubt. <i>What if I sound pretentious? What if I'm not as hilarious as my friends think I am? Oh god what if I'm boring?!
</i><br />
<br />
After the last Fozzel & Bean blog post, life took a serious turn. I like to call the journey of self-discovery that came next my "Yolo year". It's kinda like the twenty-something hipster version of Eat Pray Love. I threw out a tonne of possessions, changed my hair and clothes, quit my job and (temporarily) my degree, moved to the Gold Coast to share a questionably-hygienic apartment with at least 7 strangers, had a Summer stint as a nightclub photographer, met countless new and inspiring people from all over the globe, learned a million new things about myself, and damaged many liver and brain cells in the process (would not recommend). When the Yolo Year ended I tried to write again, but realised that I hadn't found my voice. In fact, I probably never had.<br />
<br />
What follows is a series of Goals that I followed to find my own writing style, and to keep myself (and hopefully others too!) motivated for writing and blogging consistently.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OqAKe8H5R1Y/VzmUsTkgdrI/AAAAAAAADg4/TiZb03kMYCsCPCCmoFKrN-69IXVyPdEuACLcB/s1600/tumblr_mqafrpX4Qc1szfq95o1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OqAKe8H5R1Y/VzmUsTkgdrI/AAAAAAAADg4/TiZb03kMYCsCPCCmoFKrN-69IXVyPdEuACLcB/s1600/tumblr_mqafrpX4Qc1szfq95o1_500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
5 Goals for Overcoming Self-Doubt in Blogging
</h2>
<h4>
<br />1. Just write</h4>
Stream of consciousness writing is a technique used by fiction writers. When you're working on a novel or short story, it's easy to waste time fussing over the structure of one sentence or paragraph, losing sight of the big picture. On a smaller scale, blogging is the same. Stream of consciousness exercises are a great way to train your brain to express thoughts more freely. Sit down with your laptop or pen & paper, and let anything and everything that comes into your head flow onto the page. Forget grammar and punctuation. Forget whatever point you're trying to make or person you're trying to be. Just write. What is left might be complete crap, or it might contain something brilliant that inspires a future post. Either way, you are strengthening your writing voice.<br />
<br />
<h4>
2. Plan</h4>
With all the material from your writing exercises, you should have a list of things you're inspired to write about. Plan your posts out in draft form, adding pictures and other information as it comes to you, and keeping track of what needs to be done before the post is published (like finishing that damn coat!). Some weeks you might have plenty of inspiration and projects to share, while other weeks the real world requires your attention. Writing multiple drafts in advance means you're not wasting great ideas, and you still have content ready to be published during more quiet times.<br />
<h4>
<br />3. Tell a story</h4>
An exercise from a creative writing class I took this semester: start really reflecting on the way you speak in person; the moments when you feel the most confident, and the moments where people around you are the most engaged. During this exercise I found that I love to tell stories that make people laugh. From the ongoing battle between my housemate and our resident spider, Huntsy, to the time I accidentally wore my squishy purple ug boots to work, when I'm telling my friends a story (even one where I completely embarrass myself) I speak with a confidence I never realised I had. Apply these discoveries to your writing and you'll have found your voice!<br />
<br />
<h4>
4. Never look back! </h4>
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, read over your old blog posts when you are in a self-doubting mood. All you will find is a myriad of mistakes, lame jokes and general shame and embarrassment that will eat away at your confidence until your next post goes from draft to recycle bin. Focus on each new post, and your writing will get better and better with time!<br />
<h4>
<br />5. Have fun being you! </h4>
If there's one thing I learned during my Yolo Year, it's that no matter how weird or crazy you are, there will always be someone who gets it (or at least finds it endearing to watch). In this social media driven world where almost everything is public, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking everyone else is perfect. Spend a moment thinking about your favourite people, both in daily life and in the blogging world, however, and you'll probably find that the most refreshing people are the ones who are genuine. And life is so much more fun when you're spending time with people who know and love the real you.<br />
<br />
I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you're an avid blogger, how did you find your writing voice? If not, what struggles are you facing right now when it comes to blogging consistently? Let me know in the comments :)<br />
<br />
PS: If you're still following Fozzel & Bean from back in 2014, I literally love you! What have I missed?!?!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="auto" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vcgDWiWTyp4/VDpu7PP1fNI/AAAAAAAABDA/be9kDYjh2lY/s1600/IMG_7333.JPG" width="640" /></div>
</div>
<br />
As usual, I'm a little late to the party when it comes to popular indie patterns. I am probably the last person in blog land to express my love for BHL's Anna dress, but I'm about to do it anyway (sorrynotsorry!).<br />
<br />
This is THE most flattering, comfortable and amazing dress I have ever owned, let alone made. Construction-wise it's not perfect, but neither are any of the RTW dresses in my closet! It's soft and flowy. It's both modest and daring. The combination of colours and fabrics (and time!) somehow magically came together to form a dress that is completely <i>me. </i>That feels amazing. I may never accomplish it again. If I do, I hope it's a coat...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="auto" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-s09hGTKh7Jk/VDpu5d0dH2I/AAAAAAAABCw/01bul73mqg4/s1600/IMG_7325.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<h3>
The Details:</h3>
<b>Pattern: </b><a href="http://byhandlondon.com/products/anna-dress" target="_blank">Anna Dress - By Hand London</a><br />
<b>Size:</b> US 10.<br />
<b>Variation:</b> Maxi length with slash neckline and side slit. Full lining.<br />
<b>Alterations:</b> Shortened waist, shortened shoulders, shortened hem, used shorter back zipper.<br />
<b>Fabric:</b> Navy bamboo/viscose + weird baby blue viscose from the <a href="http://www.theremnantwarehouse.com.au/" target="_blank">Remnant Warehouse</a>. Burnout poly chiffon - thrifted.<br />
<b>Necklace:</b> thrifted. <b>Hair piece:</b> somewhere in Katoomba...<br />
<br />
I made this dress specifically to wear to the inaugural Recycla-Ball (like recyclable!?) - a formal evening function celebrating sustainability and the arts at my university. The entire evening was the brainchild of my dear friend Mel and myself, and is the main reason for the lull in sewing projects around here these past few months. Between the two of us, and a couple of helpful friends and mothers, we made almost all of the decorations, including an awesome DIY photo-booth with props! The guests were encouraged to wear formal attire that was either handmade or altered, vintage or thrifted. The night was completely amazing and still feels like a dream. I was planning on doing a whole post about the Ball, but honestly I can't bear to think about paper flowers just yet... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="auto" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-faVaEFqK-8Y/VDpvBmoERHI/AAAAAAAABDo/oyryzAKq264/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG" width="640" /></div>
The thing I love most about BHL patterns is the way they show the included ease for each size. This dress needed enough room for a night filled with mini hamburgers and sorbet, fancy cocktails and all of the dancing (followed by a speech! ahhh!), so I confidently cut a size US 10.<br />
<br />
The good thing about being late to indie pattern parties is that I go in fully aware of the problems I might encounter. This pattern was in no way designed to fit a petite frame right out of the packet. But that's okay. It's the prettiest dress pattern I have ever seen. Why learn to sew if not to make pretty things fit properly?<br />
<br />
<h3>
Petite Alterations for Anna:</h3>
Basically, the unaltered Anna dress fits me perfectly horizontally. Vertically, however, I am suddenly transformed into a small child waddling around the house in her mother's clothing. It's seriously bizarre. I didn't make a muslin because... I don't know. Paper flowers were more important at the time! The following alterations were all made mid-construction.<br />
<br />
<b>1.</b> Removed 1-2cm (about 5/8 inch) from the shoulder seam, starting at the neckline and grading slightly back out toward the sleeve to avoid shrinking the armscye. This pulled the bust pleats up into the right position and solved the neckline gaping. There is still wrinkling around the sleeves. I don't know whether this is a result of the shoulder seam change or if it's just the drape of my fabric, but it seems pretty similar to the examples on the BHL website.<br />
<br />
<b>2.</b> Removed about an inch (possibly more) at waist seam.<br />
<br />
<b>3.</b> Removed approximately one basquillion inches from the hemline. Seriously, it was a lot.<br />
<br />
My other major alteration was a semi accident. Out of pure laziness I used the only black invisible zip at hand, and decided to button the top and leave a keyhole style slit at the upper back. On the night of the Ball, ten minutes before people started coming through the doors, I threw on my dress only to realise I had completely forgotten to attach the button! So, I folded in the edges and went with it...<br />
After seeing all the photos from the night, I actually love the V shape in the back. Obviously, it would be nicer and neater if it were intentional, but I can't decide whether to leave it or change it...<br />
In the picture below it's pinned closed the way I had intended.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="auto" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-whVLxQ674tQ/VDpvDBuECOI/AAAAAAAABDw/ujG6mgQUc8Q/s1600/IMG_7427.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<h3>
Construction Details:</h3>
The main navy fabric is a weird and wonderful blend of bamboo and rayon. It has an odd texture with a faint sheen that almost looks like crepe in these photos. It was the tiniest bit too sheer to use on its own, so I added a full
lining of another weird rayon substance (not the bemburg I was hoping
for). Online shopping is risky business...<br />
<br />
As much as I love the feel and pressability (that's a word now) of rayon, it has it's problems. Half an hour of meticulous ironing was completely undone after a 2 minute drive to the photo shoot destination... Don't even know what is going on with the bust pleats in these photos. I promise it was lovely and smooth on the night! <br />
<br />
I used french seams throughout the lining and waist seam, and pinked the main skirt seams to avoid bulk. I added facings to the lining to avoid any pale blue from peaking out around the neckline, and handpicked the lining to the main fabric along the side slit. The awesome orange stuff on the front panel is a piece of velvety burnout chiffon that has been in my stash forever.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="438" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HjUmSET7hFg/VDum1pcQ1AI/AAAAAAAABEA/xtwfo7qzuUY/s1600/IMG_7452.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="472" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ynwFpMP1Kuw/VDum3yyMVtI/AAAAAAAABEM/vP4rguSRrB0/s1600/IMG_7451.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="auto" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rBFqlA2dzVw/VDpvA8TZpLI/AAAAAAAABDg/_ob9bNsQzvE/s1600/IMG_7394.JPG" width="640" /></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Obligatory leg flash!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Angelina Jolie makes it look so much easier...<br />
It's the end of Winter, so no judging the ghostly colour of my leg... I wore lacy black tights to the event and it looked much more glamorous. I hope.<br />
<br />
So, I'm pretty sure this is the first of <i>many </i>Anna dresses. <br />
Have you made a version? Or multiple? If so, show me show me! <br />
<br />
And have a lovely week :)<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pinterest.com/zoemayy/personal-style/" target="_blank">[images via Pinterest]</a></td></tr>

Something has changed in me over this last year. Maybe it's just the recent lack of bedroom storage, but I suddenly cannot stand <i>stuff.</i> So, in the spirit of Spring cleaning, last week I unpacked my Summer clothes and began a much needed cull.<br />
<br />
Creating a <a href="http://fozzelandbean.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/a-winter-capsule-wardrobe.html" target="_blank">capsule wardrobe for Winter</a> was helpful on so many levels. I'm the complete opposite of a morning person, so anything that makes getting out of pajamas a little easier is a very good thing. The Summer version has been a bit more difficult, but I'm pretty pleased with where I'm at. As usual, all images and their sources can be found on my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/zoemayy/personal-style/" target="_blank">Pinterest board.</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kqgqve_xAMQ/VDj-wd8UWeI/AAAAAAAABCI/_sGFX7Rgjr8/s1600/Summer%2BOutfit%2B1%2B-%2BPolyvore%2B2014-10-11%2B19-14-06.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kqgqve_xAMQ/VDj-wd8UWeI/AAAAAAAABCI/_sGFX7Rgjr8/s1600/Summer%2BOutfit%2B1%2B-%2BPolyvore%2B2014-10-11%2B19-14-06.png" height="340" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My Summer style can be broken down into two basic recipes:<br />
1. Loose top + comfortable pants + flats.<br />
2. Loose top + high waist skirt + flats.<br />
<br />
From these two recipes I can create at least four silhouettes, just by swapping out the jeans for shorts, or the mini for a maxi skirt.<br />
<br />
If you're interested in this exercise, you can read more about proportions and silhouettes <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/wardrobe-architect/week-4-proportions-and-silhouettes" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://into-mind.com/2013/08/25/proportions-catalogue/" target="_blank">here</a> :) <br />
<br />
The result is a capsule wardrobe of 20 items, excluding accessories like belts, etc. I used <a href="http://www.polyvore.com/summer_capsule_wardrobe/collection?id=3976539" target="_blank">Polyvore</a> to create a basic outline of the items - mostly based on clothes I already own, and items I'm planning to make. Neither of my capsule wardrobes contain dresses - but not because I don't wear them! I want to give myself room for experimentation, especially when it comes to sewing. There are so many shapes and lengths that I feel comfortable wearing in different situations, so it would be silly to limit myself strictly to two or three styles! Heather of <a href="http://www.closetcasefiles.com/" target="_blank">Closet Case Files</a> wrote a <a href="http://closetcasefiles.com/multiple-identities/" target="_blank">great post</a> a while back on a similar topic - dressing for multiple identities/situations - definitely worth a read!<br />

<br />
I'm super excited to get started on some warm weather sewing projects. A floaty button-down is currently in progress, and my stash has grown significantly larger (and prettier!) after a massive fabric sale last week... So much for having less stuff!<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has been having a lovely Spring/Fall! Have you been making any sewing or wardrobe plans for the new season? I'd love to hear about them!<br />

Just wanted to thank you all so much for the lovely comments on my last post. Knowing that people have so much faith in my little business is totally inspiring :)<br />
<br />
Today's project is exciting for a couple of reasons: it's a completely new style for me, and it's also my first foray into pattern testing!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFg6QlXdeJg/VCaFvLWVm-I/AAAAAAAABAM/0FvfmvfvoWs/s1600/IMG_7298.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFg6QlXdeJg/VCaFvLWVm-I/AAAAAAAABAM/0FvfmvfvoWs/s1600/IMG_7298.jpg" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
When I first saw Lindsay's newest pattern, the <a href="http://lindsaywoodwardpatterns.bigcartel.com/product/senna-dress-pdf-pattern" target="_blank">Senna dress</a>, I knew that I was destined to
make a little black version. It looks like I wasn't the only one; check
out these gorgeous LBD Senna dresses by <a href="http://thewardrobe-project.blogspot.gr/2014/09/pattern-testing-senna-dress.html" target="_blank">Mady</a> and <a href="http://www.sewdiy.com/blog/2014/9/24/black-knit-senna-dress" target="_blank">Beth</a>!<br />
<br />
Although pencil skirts and tight-fitted clothing aren't my usual cup of tea, I was drawn to the lovely combination of ruched skirt with loose, blouson style top. The versatility of this pattern makes it ideal for trying out a new style or silhouette - if all else fails, it makes some great separates. The sleeve length is perfection, and I do love a kimono top!<br />
<br />
Being somewhat lacking in the tall and slender department, I had some doubts about ever looking as demure as Lindsay does in her <a href="http://blog.lindsaywoodward.com/2014/08/senna-two-piece-set-acular.html" target="_blank">floral number</a>. For this reason, my version is a secret two-piece! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P23BFUeUOlE/VCaFr_COMOI/AAAAAAAAA_0/wyMFJt2h8Aw/s1600/IMG_7277.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P23BFUeUOlE/VCaFr_COMOI/AAAAAAAAA_0/wyMFJt2h8Aw/s1600/IMG_7277.jpg" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-US8tiUMe8hE/VCaFtxenYtI/AAAAAAAABAA/Z8G4LaxSoLY/s1600/IMG_7293.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-US8tiUMe8hE/VCaFtxenYtI/AAAAAAAABAA/Z8G4LaxSoLY/s1600/IMG_7293.jpg" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
Using a super drapey knit fabric from the Remnant Warehouse, I cut a
size 10 for both skirt and top variations. I left the top longer in
length, so that it just tucks beneath the skirt waistband. <br />
<br />
Despite being amazingly soft, my fabric was a little more lightweight than it should have been (the toils of internet shopping...), so tights are pretty much a necessity. The plus side of this accident is that it ruches extremely well. Rather than shirring, I stitched over a thin strip of elastic at each side seam. This is the recommended method in the released pattern, and it's so simple and effective!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iwQaJnCd-RM/VBKdYIy0stI/AAAAAAAAA8k/xh_asMe_Ixk/s1600/IMG_6900.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iwQaJnCd-RM/VBKdYIy0stI/AAAAAAAAA8k/xh_asMe_Ixk/s1600/IMG_6900.JPG" height="auto" width="450" /></a> </div>
<br />
My skirt looks a lot shorter than the pattern intends, but it wasn't cut that way. Another positive of the thin fabric is that I can pull the gathers up and down and adjust the length however I like! Wearing it as an extra-ruched mini feels a bit more secure, and I think it's more flattering on my short legs :D <br />
<br />
In all, I'm really happy with this outfit. Like most knits, it comes together ridiculously fast - I finished it in an afternoon! And making separates has already proven to be a great idea. The close fit of the skirt will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm imagining so many awesome batwing blouse/baggy sweater combinations!<br />
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1YXEscy274Y/VCaFuiWjYqI/AAAAAAAABAE/4BQCrG3p_KE/s1600/IMG_7310.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1YXEscy274Y/VCaFuiWjYqI/AAAAAAAABAE/4BQCrG3p_KE/s1600/IMG_7310.jpg" height="640" width="422" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V9_UJwJG_Js/VCaFra0k8-I/AAAAAAAAA_w/1Wwjl93GeVY/s1600/IMG_7294.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V9_UJwJG_Js/VCaFra0k8-I/AAAAAAAAA_w/1Wwjl93GeVY/s1600/IMG_7294.jpg" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
Despite my lack of tight-skirt confidence, I'll admit that these
photos turned out pretty great. It's all in the posture!
These dorky little legs have minds of their own (and plaid tights make it so much worse!) Maybe one day I'll show
you some outtakes... <br />
In time, when I have perfected the art of walking and standing sensibly, this skirt will be a serious staple! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Fozzel & Bean has been selected as one of 58 finalists in Australia's inaugural <a href="http://www.etsydesignawards.com/" target="_blank">Etsy Design Awards</a>! Um what!?<br />
<br />
There are two parts to the awards. A panel of awesome judges will select a winning store from each category (I am in New Talent), and public votes will decide on one store for the overall Community's Choice. The winner of Community's Choice will be featured in a magazine, and sent to the Etsy headquarters in NYC!<br />
It has taken me a couple of days to publish this post because I'm sort of in shock :P. But there I am, displayed amongst 12 other amazing new Australian stores:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blog.etsy.com/en/2014/cast-your-vote-in-the-etsy-design-awards/" target="_blank"><img alt="https://blog.etsy.com/en/2014/cast-your-vote-in-the-etsy-design-awards/" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gtpjnG0ig44/VCVnRwT6oDI/AAAAAAAAA_Q/PARNMhLON5Q/s1600/Cast%2BYour%2BVote%2Bin%2Bthe%2BEtsy%2BDesign%2BAwards%2B-%2BThe%2BEtsy%2BBlog%2B2014-09-26%2B22-25-48.png" height="474" width="640" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a stroke of truly bizarre timing, the design I entered was sold the day before the announcements. After an emotional send-off, the one-of-a-kind pride and joy of my store is now on it's way across the sea to Texas. I'll miss you, scarfy shawl thing that never had a proper name!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

If you would like to help me win an amazing trip to New York, pretty please follow <a href="http://www.etsydesignawards.com/nominees/new-talent/fozzel-and-bean" target="_blank">this link</a> and vote for Fozzel & Bean! As an added bonus, voting will put you in the draw to win $250 to spend on Etsy! :D<br />

<br />
It feels as though almost every post in this blog contains some kind of reference to the weather, but I couldn't resist making the most of the beautiful stone-fruit blossoms just outside my kitchen.<br />
<br />
I promise that from now onward all weather references will be this colourful and positive!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qgio7oGLdqI/VBVB--ZKGFI/AAAAAAAAA9Y/b7xWVkeAuH8/s1600/IMG_7015.JPG" height="434" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For a little while now I have been experimenting with Spring appropriate accessories like lace collars.<br />
<br />
I'm starting simple, using reclaimed yarn in various fibers and weights, and trying to develop a style that is both earthy and delicate. Feminine without being too lacy or frilly. I guess that's Fozzel & Bean style in a nutshell! It's amazing how much writing helps to put abstract feelings into words.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ho0Y_3ukgCc/VBVCAGnOnFI/AAAAAAAAA9s/GaztkQl4h_A/s1600/IMG_7018.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/203451901/ready-to-ship-cream-lace-collar-necklace?ref=shop_home_feat_4" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aVWdW7DuQ-k/VBVCASrCgUI/AAAAAAAAA9w/Gv4mKv23yl8/s1600/IMG_7026.JPG" height="438" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This particular collar is made from a beautifully delicate reclaimed cashmere yarn. It looks like a warm cream, but up close you can see that it's flecked with tiny strands of red. The closure is a metal vintage button from my stash, with what looks like a red gemstone in the face.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7NkwrR7kvY/VBVB63YBU5I/AAAAAAAAA9M/5k1StXhI1XM/s1600/_MG_6960.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7NkwrR7kvY/VBVB63YBU5I/AAAAAAAAA9M/5k1StXhI1XM/s1600/_MG_6960.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In other news, September is shaping up to be a hectic month. I have so
many great things to share over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!<br />

This morning I wore a dress for at least two whole hours before running back to the bedroom for a sweater and tights. Thrilling stuff, right? I knew I had to have something good to make up for my recent lack of posts...<br />
<br />
Things have been quiet here on the blog, but busy enough on the store front. As excited as I am for Spring to finally arrive in my hemisphere, I'm also vaguely nervous about my first Fall/Christmas season. There's a likely chance that sales will halt altogether, but for now I'd rather keep positive and prepare for an influx of international sales!<br />
<br />

I have been experimenting with a bunch of new designs and ideas lately, but it's always the gloves that end up the most satisfying. This pair is my current favourite colour combination. There's just something about bright orange with cool grey lately.<br />
<br />
Originally I wanted to do something a little more complex with the colour-work, but the simplicity of this pair just kind of works. <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/201781966/ready-to-ship-tiny-hearts-wool?ref=shop_home_feat_4" target="_blank">Available here</a> as of today :)<br />
<br />
In other knitting news, I finally decided on yarn to make the long-awaited chunky sweater of my dreams. This lovely blue wool/nylon blend yarn was reclaimed from an old sweater and then washed and re-skeined. It's from an awesome Etsy store called <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/kittyscuriosity?ref=l2-shop-info-name" target="_blank">Kitty's Curiosity,</a> and is such an affordable way to buy an entire sweaters worth of nice wool. I can't wait to get started!<br />

<br />
The weather is only just starting to change, but I couldn't be more ready to say goodbye to August! Have you started making creative plans for the new season?<br />

Happy Monday everyone!<br />
<br />
Apologies for being MIA of late - on top of uni work and knitting new orders I've been doing a little bit of event management. Can't wait to fill you in on the details :D<br />
<br />
I'll have plenty to post about once the fun part begins - preparing decorations!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought this organic cotton jersey a few months back, after seeing <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/481533385130479153/" target="_blank">this knit dress</a> from Madewell (no longer available). I have been loving the combination of horizontal and vertical stripes for a while now, and there's nothing better than a looming essay on rhetorical criticism to motivate me to sew!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Warning: Despite my sad hair day, this is a pretty picture-heavy post. This dress is <i>that</i> awesome!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vbJEPwdO-N0/U93K5Qd3pPI/AAAAAAAAA5U/KdCDj-x_0cs/s1600/IMG_6704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vbJEPwdO-N0/U93K5Qd3pPI/AAAAAAAAA5U/KdCDj-x_0cs/s1600/IMG_6704.JPG" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you have been reading this blog a little while, you might recognise the bodice from my <a href="http://fozzelandbean.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/simplicity-design-your-own-kimono-blouse.html" target="_blank">blue striped top.</a> The unexpectedly trusty Simplicity 9427 was a pretty perfect candidate for this dress style.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I cut the size XS, stopping at the waist-line, plus taking a slice out of the center back and a decent amount from the side seams to account for stretch. As happy as I am with the result, I sort of wish I had stayed true to my inspiration and straightened the front side seams. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next time I guess!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9wuuZ0zpum8/U93K9rjNEcI/AAAAAAAAA5s/Alt1cLE4LDo/s1600/IMG_6715.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9wuuZ0zpum8/U93K9rjNEcI/AAAAAAAAA5s/Alt1cLE4LDo/s1600/IMG_6715.JPG" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cp5GMYrDcVM/U93K8YUP9dI/AAAAAAAAA5k/ZZF4qujR2xw/s1600/IMG_6707.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cp5GMYrDcVM/U93K8YUP9dI/AAAAAAAAA5k/ZZF4qujR2xw/s1600/IMG_6707.JPG" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<br />
All seams and top-stitching were done using a ballpoint needle and zig-zag stitch on my regular machine. I used a strip of elastic to gather the skirt pieces before attaching them to the bodice. This means that the waist seam is extra flexible when pulling the dress on and off. PJ level comfort!<br />
<br />
The jersey is pretty lightweight, so it's going to be awesome in Summer. For now, though, it goes nicely with tights and a cardigan! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-os3nnWK0obQ/U93LKP9-5jI/AAAAAAAAA6E/WJfmjc1ZEaM/s1600/IMG_6675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-os3nnWK0obQ/U93LKP9-5jI/AAAAAAAAA6E/WJfmjc1ZEaM/s1600/IMG_6675.JPG" height="auto" width="450" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
Because the fabric is so thin, I decided to line the bodice for a bit more structure and opacity. The back panel is lined with self-fabric, and was literally the only stripe-matching required for this dress! I lined the front pieces using a soft and slightly thicker cream knit from my scrap pile. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f3mOXYX8u00/U92w0AwzigI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/cduR1DajRHg/s1600/IMG_6739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f3mOXYX8u00/U92w0AwzigI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/cduR1DajRHg/s1600/IMG_6739.JPG" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The greatest thing about this jersey is near invisible in the above photos, so here are some gratuitous close ups. Gold sparkles! </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6KtHWkwNBZk/U92wyRxbkQI/AAAAAAAAA4I/1DK-wZCu86U/s1600/IMG_6737.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6KtHWkwNBZk/U92wyRxbkQI/AAAAAAAAA4I/1DK-wZCu86U/s1600/IMG_6737.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want to get your hands on some of this gold striped organic cotton jersey, it's still available via <a href="http://www.theremnantwarehouse.com.au/fabrics/fashion/jersey/gold-stripe-organic-jersey-grey-white.html" target="_blank">The Remnant Warehouse</a> (AU & NZ). I'm hoping to scrounge a casual top out of my leftovers!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lining a knit garment is not something I have done before, but with careful pinning it was pretty straightforward. The result is beautiful. I love the clean neckline and the way it makes the whole dress feel more secure. I'm positive that it will last longer too. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have you ever lined a knit garment (the<a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/sewing/moneta" target="_blank"> Moneta</a> dress, perhaps)? I'd love to hear what you think!</div>

I just recently stumbled across the wonderful prints by Sam Georgieff of <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/poordogfarm?ref=l2-shopheader-name" target="_blank">Poor Dog Farm</a>, United States. His store is filled to the brim with beautiful ink and watercolour artworks - many featuring adorable animals wearing hats, like this "dapper manatee"!<br />

<br />
Hope everyone has been having a lovely week :)<br />
I'm looking forward to some sunny weather over the weekend - there is a new dress longing to be photographed!<br />

Instead of moping about the cold, I have taken to looking through old
Instagram photos from Summers on the coast, and dreaming of how warm my
toes will be in just a few more months.<br />
Before Winter ends, however, I'm determined to venture out into the frost with my camera. By Christmas I might need something cool to stare at, after all.<br />
<br />
How do you stay motivated when your sewing space becomes an ice-box? Maybe I just really need to move house :P<br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_805boCZM4s/U8tP-WSc29I/AAAAAAAAAz0/mXBnqSieZ-w/s1600/IMG_6654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_805boCZM4s/U8tP-WSc29I/AAAAAAAAAz0/mXBnqSieZ-w/s1600/IMG_6654.JPG" height="auto" width="460" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm so excited to finally share this project! <br />
<br />
In between shop orders and uni work, I have been slowly working away on this knitted shrug, using the free <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90554.html?noImages=" target="_blank">Rectangle Knit Shrug</a> pattern by <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90554.html?noImages=" target="_blank">Lion Brand</a>.<br />
<br />
The pattern comes together surprisingly quickly if you're a reasonably fast knitter. I had only <i>just</i> started to go insane by the time I finished the second piece. Plus, all that stockinette
makes this the perfect movie-watching project. <br />
<br />
I never really understood the appeal of owning a "shrug" (they're weird and awkward and what if your front gets cold?!). That is, until I saw <a href="http://www.kollabora.com/projects/glittering-rectangle-knit-shrug" target="_blank">this glittery navy version</a>. Maybe it's the styling, but something about it is just <i>cool</i>. I still wish mine was glittery.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2VpuqXfGfcM/U8tPtlXnpXI/AAAAAAAAAzs/kAfURd29j0U/s1600/IMG_6641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2VpuqXfGfcM/U8tPtlXnpXI/AAAAAAAAAzs/kAfURd29j0U/s1600/IMG_6641.JPG" height="auto" width="460" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6FQko4lWUZc/U8tP76axgYI/AAAAAAAAA0E/UOBKYaLIf4U/s1600/IMG_6644.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6FQko4lWUZc/U8tP76axgYI/AAAAAAAAA0E/UOBKYaLIf4U/s1600/IMG_6644.JPG" height="auto" width="460" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My shrug was made using a 5ply (sport weight) merino yarn from Bendigo Woolen Mills. It's super warm and I love the muted blue colour, which is a little darker in person.<br />
<br />
I only made a few changes when following the pattern: My sleeve cuffs are a little shorter, and I used a different method to join the pieces at the back seam.<br />
The method I used (<a href="http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/mattress.html" target="_blank">tutorial here</a>) leaves you with a nice neat seam that is practically invisible on the outside (should have taken a photo...). The seam is also flat enough to incorporate embroidery like I did!<br />
<br />
I included the button-holes but ended up leaving off the buttons. As awesome as wooden buttons would have looked, I honestly have no idea why they are recommended. Unless you go up a size (I knit a small) or happen to have a miniature ribcage, it looks pretty terrible pulled closed!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JJtnFkwcO0c/U8tPtO8xUNI/AAAAAAAAAzc/WyitbC6xjO0/s1600/IMG_6624.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JJtnFkwcO0c/U8tPtO8xUNI/AAAAAAAAAzc/WyitbC6xjO0/s1600/IMG_6624.JPG" height="513" width="640" /></a> </div>
<br />
The embroidery was kind of a last minute, late-night decision. I wanted to add something special to compliment all those hours worth of stockinette. It's a very very simple design: just a few lines of running stitch using a fine orange yarn from my stash, with some silver and white threaded through. I love it though, and it seems to make all the difference when deciding whether or not I should wear it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZYmtg5k27WQ/U8tP90YnG6I/AAAAAAAAA0A/i9k38Rl21Vs/s1600/IMG_6655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZYmtg5k27WQ/U8tP90YnG6I/AAAAAAAAA0A/i9k38Rl21Vs/s1600/IMG_6655.JPG" height="auto" width="460" /></a></div>
<br />
Am I a converted shrug-wearer now? We'll see, but I think just this one might be enough. I'd love to hear how you all feel about the truly fascinating topic that is the shrug :P<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has had a lovely week!<br />

Since then, I have been on a hunt for the ultimate slouchy, cabled sweater pattern.<br />
<br />
After <i>way</i> too many hours spent scrolling through Ravelry (ermahgerd, so much 80's!), I have come up with three options that just might satisfy my current need for epic levels of cosiness:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeymaker" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeymaker" class="photo_image" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/madder/159097889/DSC_7253_medium2.jpg" id="photo_image_31105939" /></a> <br />
<b>1.</b> <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeymaker" target="_blank">Honeymaker</a>
by Leah B. Thibault. I absolutely adore this sweater (and the gorgeous
styling!). The honeycomb<b> </b>texture is so unusual - it even comes with
instructions to knit a tiny bee into one of the cells! As soon as I find
the perfect shade of red, it's happening.<br />
Pattern is $6 from <a href="http://quinceandco.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_12&products_id=286" target="_blank">Quince & Co.</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stonecutter" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stonecutter" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SlZ_K_MYVZc/U8N7iCvrHaI/AAAAAAAAAyc/8ynLKetkvPg/s1600/stonecutterknittingpattern.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>2.</b> <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stonecutter" target="_blank">Stonecutter </a>by Michelle Wang. Probably the most difficult of the three options, but still completely amazing.<br />
Pattern is $7 from the <a href="http://brooklyntweed.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=243" target="_blank">Brooklyn Tweed store</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lempster" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lempster" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Te8QWmBehlA/U8N8vL_V1iI/AAAAAAAAAyo/oM97NMHAe94/s1600/lempsterknittingpattern.jpg" height="456" width="640" /></a></div>
<b>3.</b><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lempster" target="_blank"> Lempster</a> by Norah Gaughan. Such a pretty cabled design. I can see it being especially beautiful in a forest green.<br />
Free pattern via<a href="http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEw13/PATTlempster.php" target="_blank"> Knitty</a>.com.<br />
<br />
So, who wants to help a girl out? Which sweater gets your vote?<br />
I'm totally in need of a cable-related challenge after the mindless fingering-weight stockinette that made up my last project (soon to be blogged!).<br />
<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JZcjXWsfQR4/U793wHUnQ8I/AAAAAAAAAyI/vV1itt5Bjjs/s1600/_MG_6574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JZcjXWsfQR4/U793wHUnQ8I/AAAAAAAAAyI/vV1itt5Bjjs/s1600/_MG_6574.JPG" height="458" width="640" /></a> </div>
<br />
This is my second version of the Darling Ranges dress (<a href="http://fozzelandbean.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/darling-ranges-1.html" target="_blank">first version here</a>). It's also my first project as part of Sally's <a href="http://thequirkypeach.blogspot.com.au/p/summer-stashbust-2014.html" target="_blank">Summer Stashbust </a>challenge! I found this olive green rayon for $5 at Lifeline at least 6 months ago. It's so hard to find nice prints in rayon, so I couldn't resist this unusual floral design.<br />
<br />
<b>Pattern details:</b><br />
Similar to last time; I raised the neckline a few centimeters, and took a little length out of the shoulders. The shoulders are still a little too long for me, making the neckline a bit gapey and the bust darts a little low. The drag lines are even more noticeable in this soft fabric. Next time I'll revert back to the original neckline and take even more from the shoulders.<br />
<br />
For comfort, and to stop the sleeves from twisting around, I replaced the elastic cuffs with shirt-style cuffs. The insides are all French seamed - it's so much nicer in rayon. I also shortened the hem quite a lot. This length works much better on my short legs!<br />
<br />

Leather belt: vintage<br />
Boots: All 4 Me<br />
<br />
You'll have to excuse my tired face. This is literally the third attempt this week at photographing this dress. It still clashes pretty badly with the brick wall, but it was the only place where I was sheltered from horrible icy winds. So thankful for pockets!<br />
<br />
In the spirit of being more organised, I recently ordered 100 little wooden shirt buttons from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/SkullButtonry/about?ref=shopinfo_about_leftnav" target="_blank">SkullButtonry</a> (currently on vacation). I get so tired of never having quite enough of the same button, and I never realised how much more affordable buttons are in bulk (duh!).<br />
<br />
All the profits from the SkullButtonry supplies store go towards Foundation 18's
orphanage "Yayasan Dharma Sadana", as well as education outreach programs and
humanitarian work in Indonesia.<br />
<br />
Definitely no regrets here!<br />

<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/zoemayy/personal-style/" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.pinterest.com/zoemayy/personal-style/" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wW7kt6iJSxs/U7qi3dpEk9I/AAAAAAAAAxM/XZr_dU2dgMQ/s1600/winter+moodboard.jpg" height="584" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my third Armidale Winter, yet it's the first that I have felt the cold quite so deeply. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To any readers living in snowy climates (or even local Armidaleans), I sure sound like a lightweight. Where I grew up on the coast, Winter is just a chance to rest and recuperate before another intense Summer. When it comes to temperature in the negatives, a lightweight is exactly what I am! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Living in an old, drafty, ground-level house has forced me to realise that my "Winter Wardrobe" is non-existent. When I need to function like a normal person, an overflowing drawer of pajama pants just doesn't cut it. So, in an attempt to make cold mornings a little less grueling, I have been working away on a capsule wardrobe for the season.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Above is a moodboard that I created (because who doesn't love a moodboard) to focus on my favourite Winter silhouettes. All image sources can be found via <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/zoemayy/personal-style/" target="_blank">my Pinterest board</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfN0PffGKNw/U7qi3YEXnXI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/d3g1pkcsg-s/s1600/winter+silhouettes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfN0PffGKNw/U7qi3YEXnXI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/d3g1pkcsg-s/s1600/winter+silhouettes.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Winter style revolves around 2 fairly similar silhouettes: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Loose shirt/sweater + skinny pants + boots.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Loose shirt/sweater + short skirt with tights + flats. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you're interested in this exercise, you can read about silhouettes and proportions <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/wardrobe-architect/week-4-proportions-and-silhouettes" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://into-mind.com/2013/08/25/proportions-catalogue/" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used <a href="http://www.polyvore.com/capsule_wardrobe_winter/collection?id=3722613" target="_blank">Polyvore</a> to create a basic capsule wardrobe of 24 items. Pretty much all elements of my two silhouettes are interchangeable, as well as being perfect for layering. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of these items are based on things I already own and wear a lot
(boots, pants, shirts, etc.). I am in no position, financial <i>or</i>
ethical, to go on a shopping spree for new clothes. With the
exception of a quality, fleece-lined parka and some grey flats, I plan
to make the rest. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/capsule_wardrobe_winter/collection?id=3722613" target="_blank"><img alt="http://www.polyvore.com/capsule_wardrobe_winter/collection?id=3722613" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jElZmKlLEU4/U7qi6XKugYI/AAAAAAAAAxc/mb46ub1AeTA/s1600/winter+capsule+wardrobe.jpg" height="auto" width="380" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My fabric stash currently contains the supplies for an olive-green suede bomber jacket, a grey boiled-wool coat, plus whatever I can cobble together to make a few skirts. Totally set for <a href="http://thequirkypeach.blogspot.com.au/p/summer-stashbust-2014.html" target="_blank">Sally's <strike>Summer</strike> Stashbus</a>t challenge!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By the time this whole process is complete, I'll likely have to pack away my new creations and start again for warmer weather. This time next year, I'll be toasty. For now, I'll continue to fall asleep dreaming of over-sized wool sweaters. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have you been working through the <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/category/wardrobe-architect" target="_blank">Wardrobe Architect</a> series? I'd love to hear your thoughts!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>PS:</b> While writing this post, I was overcome by a strange need to justify spending this much time talking about my "wardrobe" (does blogging ever make you feel like a total narcissist?). Keep an eye out for an eventual fashion-related opinion piece...</div>

<br />
The first day of term also happened to be the coldest day this Winter (so far).<br />
<br />
As I watched the sleet landing on my now-deceased potato plants, a package arrived! These beautiful new shades of organic cotton made the day just a little more bearable.<br />
<br />
I'm especially excited about the warm pink skein pictured above - a blend of linen and organic wool. If you look closely you can see how the two fibres have been twisted together. It has such an unusual texture. I haven't yet decided what I'm going to do with it. Totally open to suggestions!<br />
<br />
In between shop-related projects I have been working away on a knitted shrug for myself, using the <a href="http://www.kollabora.com/projects/glittering-rectangle-knit-shrug" target="_blank">Rectangle Knit Shrug</a> pattern by <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90554.html?noImages=" target="_blank">Lion Brand</a>. With just the cuffs to go, I'm aiming to have it finished in time for Lauren and Andi's <a href="http://untangling-knots.com/2014/05/16/oal2014/" target="_blank">Outfit Along</a>!<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm using a super soft 5ply merino yarn from Bendigo Woolen Mills. Such a lovely shade of blue, and it blocks so nicely!<br />
<br />
In other news, I have a serious procrastination problem when it comes to sewing on buttons. Am I the only one? Stay tuned for at least two new button-related sewing projects this week.<br />
<br />Happy Monday!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14155186757830858894noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4590793905919678867.post-85428477429728139232014-06-19T05:32:00.001-07:002014-06-19T05:32:56.454-07:00Winter in Shades of Purple<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8vnfjqK40t0/U6I3KwfR_6I/AAAAAAAAAtE/ByJd-O6OQM8/s1600/IMG_6235.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8vnfjqK40t0/U6I3KwfR_6I/AAAAAAAAAtE/ByJd-O6OQM8/s1600/IMG_6235.JPG" height="452" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The cold weather has put a bit of a dampener on current sewing projects, but my hands have stayed plenty busy. To make the most of the uni break, I have been spending my mornings knitting in the sunny front room of the house. Bean keeps me company. In fact, it's the only room in the house where either of us can be found in a cheerful mood.<br />
We are definitely not Winter souls.<br />
<br />
After the purple theme of my last post, I thought I'd share a few recent knitting projects :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UmyslpzN6eA/U6I3Lj2qxnI/AAAAAAAAAtI/JEWZT4YIe2o/s1600/IMG_6244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UmyslpzN6eA/U6I3Lj2qxnI/AAAAAAAAAtI/JEWZT4YIe2o/s1600/IMG_6244.JPG" height="564" width="640" /></a> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JEGrW0PjMI8/U6I4bmUWlBI/AAAAAAAAAtw/Mffxm4dofxc/s1600/IMG_6248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JEGrW0PjMI8/U6I4bmUWlBI/AAAAAAAAAtw/Mffxm4dofxc/s1600/IMG_6248.JPG" height="434" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These elbow length wool gloves are even warmer than they look. Gentle shaping on the inside of the wrist creates a smooth, comfortable fit across the wrist. I'm very tempted to make a pair for myself, eventually - the biggest hurdle is choosing a colour! These gloves would also feel amazing in organic cotton. Just imagine their soft, delicate look when made up in a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/189304390/ready-to-ship-organic-cotton-fingerless?ref=related-7" target="_blank">pastel blue</a>...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0LGqCImkWCk/U6I3NennylI/AAAAAAAAAtc/2NZpEjDSJmo/s1600/IMG_6407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0LGqCImkWCk/U6I3NennylI/AAAAAAAAAtc/2NZpEjDSJmo/s1600/IMG_6407.JPG" height="auto" width="490" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ToS3jWryUP0/U6I3O5d8AbI/AAAAAAAAAtk/EyZX50SNVrI/s1600/IMG_6412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ToS3jWryUP0/U6I3O5d8AbI/AAAAAAAAAtk/EyZX50SNVrI/s1600/IMG_6412.JPG" height="auto" width="490" /></a></div>
<br />
This scarf is a purple variation of my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/182842358/ready-to-ship-chunky-wool-cowl-scarf-in?ref=shop_home_active_12" target="_blank">Chunky Wool Cowl</a>. What makes it special is the blend of wool with bamboo. The bamboo content (50%) adds some weight, giving the cowl a lovely drape. It also creates a shimmery, jewel-like sheen in most lights. I'll definitely be using this blend in other projects! <br />
<br />
Both of these projects were custom variations of designs available in <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/FozzelandBean?ref=si_shop" target="_blank">my Etsy store</a>. Turns out, it came at the perfect moment to get me back into writing regular posts. Whenever I take a break from writing, I seem to lose my blogging "voice" - or whatever it is that makes a person feel like they have cool stuff to say. So thank you Erika, you've snapped me out of it!<br />
<br />
If you also have no idea what a Liebster is, it's basically a way for small blogs (with under 200 followers) to support each other and help reach new audiences. It's a cute idea, and there are so many lovely little blogs around lately that I'm totally flattered to participate! I've been given a series of questions to answer about my sewing life, so here goes!<br />
<br />
1. <i>What is your favourite garment so far?</i><br />
<br />
I thought about this a while, and realised that my favourite handmade garment is actually more of a refashion. Here's the only decent picture I could find:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HpcRPfj8R1o/U51EC-RFxLI/AAAAAAAAAsI/Nhke40YWVFY/s1600/387159_109536139192804_58376997_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HpcRPfj8R1o/U51EC-RFxLI/AAAAAAAAAsI/Nhke40YWVFY/s1600/387159_109536139192804_58376997_n.jpg" height="313" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yeah. Even in heels I'm short...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The dress was originally one of those strange, "one size fits all" rayon maxi dresses that you find in Utopian Bazaar/ Tree of Life type stores. I am always drawn to the amazing colours and embroidered patterns, and thoroughly disappointed by the fit. So, I bought one to alter for a college masquerade ball a few years ago. I added a zipper and put darts in the front and back, changed the neckline and created a scoop back. I also stitched on some little diamontes that look so sparkly and awesome in this photo. It was literally the most comfortable thing I have ever worn to a formal event. I loved the colour, I felt amazing in it, and nobody else was wearing anything even remotely similar!<br />
<br />
2. <i>Favourite textile to work with?</i><br />
<br />
Linen, hands down. But when I can't afford linen (most days), probably rayon.<br />
<br />
3. <i>Why did you start sewing?</i><br />
<br />
I've always loved art, but I guess I started sewing because I was drawn to the idea of creating things I couldn't find anywhere else. My first project was hugely overambitious: a dress for my grade 10 formal/prom. Over the years, as my skills improved, I started to appreciate more about the methodical process of sewing, as well as the environmental and ethical reasons for making my own clothing.<br />
<br />
4. <i>Are you a planner or do you wing it?</i><br />
<br />
Good question! I like to plan things out, but sometimes it's exciting to just wing it. I guess I'm just a bit of both!<br />
<br />
5.<i> If your sewing machine was an animal, what type of animal would it be?</i><br />
<br />
Probably some kind of field rodent. It's very high-pitched. It's jumpy and jittery, and Bean just loves chewing on it while I'm not looking! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xgs_xucVlG4/U51OTtLi6zI/AAAAAAAAAsk/TaVfc79nOzE/s1600/_MG_54361.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xgs_xucVlG4/U51OTtLi6zI/AAAAAAAAAsk/TaVfc79nOzE/s1600/_MG_54361.jpg" height="222" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now it's my turn to nominate some bloggers! I only checked follower numbers via Bloglovin, so if you happen to have over 200, oops! <br />
<br />
I nominate:<br />
<br />
Katrina from <a href="http://bootscats.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Boots & Cats</a>. Cute photography, cute sewing, plus a love for boots <i>and </i>cats! Does it get any better than that?<br />
<br />
Etemi from <a href="http://thesecretcostumier.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">The Secret Costumier</a>. I love <i>everything</i> Etemi sews and wears. She has such an awesome style, and her Me Made May posts made me seriously crave velvet!<br />
<br />
Lindsay from <a href="http://blog.lindsaywoodward.com/" target="_blank">Design by Lindsay</a>. Lindsay is super lovely and always manages to completely change my mind about patterns. Her <a href="http://blog.lindsaywoodward.com/2014/06/shibori-prefontaine-shorts.html" target="_blank">shibori Prefontaine shorts</a> are the cutest!<br />
<br />
Shannon from <a href="http://youngseamstress.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Adventures of a Young Seamstress</a>. Shannon has such a beautiful style, and some seriously amazing dresses in her repertoire! <br />
<br />
<b>Your Questions!</b><br />
<br />
1. What is your favourite handmade garment to date?<br />
2. Do you have a favourite pattern? What is it?<br />
3. Why did you start blogging?<br />
4. What was the first sewing blog you ever read?<br />
5. If time and money were no obstacle, what would be your ultimate sewing project?<br />
<br />
<br />
Apologies in advance if you're not into this kind of thing! <br />

<br />
The last few weeks of term involved some intense essay writing (and gin drinking!). And, because I must subconsciously love crazy deadlines, every spare moment was spent preparing for my very first market stall!<br />

<br />I set up my little table at the Manning Valley <a href="http://www.envirofair.org.au/" target="_blank">Envirofair</a> - an annual sustainability fair in my hometown. It was lovely to get away from the icy Armidale weather for a weekend. The sun was shining. People were smiling. I even went to the beach!<br />
<br />
The response to my knitwear was mind-blowing. I met so many kind people, all of them excited to find something warm to take home for the Winter. Previously, I hadn't been sure whether markets were something I wanted to do. Now I'm already looking forward to the next one!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DMQB2Dna2oQ/U5xb7hTizPI/AAAAAAAAAr0/xpbAIODzEGc/s1600/IMG_6293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DMQB2Dna2oQ/U5xb7hTizPI/AAAAAAAAAr0/xpbAIODzEGc/s1600/IMG_6293.JPG" height="448" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The greatest part of the day was being able to chat to my customers and really get to know the kinds of people interested in my designs. A cello player found a pair of fingerless gloves, perfect for keeping her hands warm during evening performances. A lovely woman undergoing chemotherapy found a warm pink beanie, soft enough to wear against her delicate skin. It was a wonderful feeling, seeing people walk away with smiles on their faces, and realising that there really is a need and a desire for little businesses like mine to thrive.<br />
<br />
While we were setting up, I just had to get a photo of another stall-holder wearing her new knit bow! Doesn't it look great in her awesome hair? <br />
<br />

<br />
My little loot: An cute pair of handmade earrings, and some <a href="http://www.greenpatchseeds.com.au/" target="_blank">Greenpatch Organic Seeds</a>.<br />
<br />
Have you ever run your own market stall? I'd love to hear about it!<br />

<br />
May is almost over. This time of year always leaves me feeling a little
anxious. Partly because it's exam season, and partly because I never feel as though I've made the most of the last beautiful weeks of Autumn.<br />
<br />
I'll admit, it's going to be a relief not having to hassle my dear photographer quite so many times a week. How do all those stylish fashion bloggers do it?!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0Q77f4RwPq8/U4Qi9HFO7AI/AAAAAAAAAoI/EE1_0qiisEI/s1600/IMG_6200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0Q77f4RwPq8/U4Qi9HFO7AI/AAAAAAAAAoI/EE1_0qiisEI/s1600/IMG_6200.JPG" height="450" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

Sorry for the blurry camera-phone photo.<br />

<br />
<b>Day 13</b><br />

Beanie: Me made, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/176664247/slouchy-wool-beanie-in-blue-womens-mens?ref=listing-0" target="_blank">buy here</a>.<br />

<br />
<b>Day 14</b><br />
Oops. No photo, but I have been wearing an old pair of me made pajama pants! Comfy, low-rise, made from checked flannelette with ribbing for the waistband. Nothing groundbreaking.<br />
<br />
One week left to go :)<br />
<br />
But first, assignments! And cuddles...<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ckbAOdEYCls/U3sdirQSytI/AAAAAAAAAmA/j-F9skk7weY/s1600/IMG_6141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ckbAOdEYCls/U3sdirQSytI/AAAAAAAAAmA/j-F9skk7weY/s1600/IMG_6141.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Lately I have been working on improving the outer packaging for different items in my store. These DIY envelopes are a fun and quick project, and perfect for shipping out small items like my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/FozzelandBean?section_id=15252241" target="_blank">little knitted bows</a>.<br />
<br />
Normally I hate the idea of cutting up books! However, I recently found a huge stack of fairly tacky 80s craft magazines in Lifeline for next to nothing and decided that they deserved new life!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vEaQNNKC-ic/U3sdjvEfHBI/AAAAAAAAAmM/gp8LQzcalFI/s1600/IMG_6152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vEaQNNKC-ic/U3sdjvEfHBI/AAAAAAAAAmM/gp8LQzcalFI/s1600/IMG_6152.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Read on for instructions to make your own!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><b>You will need:</b><br />
<ul>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>Pen</li>
<li>Glue stick </li>
<li>Packing tape</li>
<li>An old envelope in a shape and size that you like</li>
<li>Old magazines or similar sturdy paper/card material. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<ul>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_1AMc0oud0Q/U3s9gfplqNI/AAAAAAAAAnY/ZbHG-9UMAcQ/s1600/IMG_6187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_1AMc0oud0Q/U3s9gfplqNI/AAAAAAAAAnY/ZbHG-9UMAcQ/s1600/IMG_6187.JPG" height="432" width="640" /></a></div>
<b>Step 1</b><br />
Open up your envelope and lay it out on the wrong side of your paper. I like to make sure that the largest area of my envelope is going to show of the prettiest image. Try to avoid large text or anything that might affect the clarity of the postal address!<br />
<br />
As you can see, my magazine is a little small to fit the whole envelope. This is okay - I just cut the last triangle separately and glue it on. To keep things neat, I make sure to line up the fold in the page with a fold in the envelope (hope that makes sense!).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6RgC7ns2s6Y/U3sdlzZXPfI/AAAAAAAAAmc/v2npoOBTRfo/s1600/IMG_6188.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6RgC7ns2s6Y/U3sdlzZXPfI/AAAAAAAAAmc/v2npoOBTRfo/s1600/IMG_6188.JPG" height="450" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 2</b><br />
Trace around the envelope and then cut out your traced shape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IglFLl76-kE/U3sdobPIx4I/AAAAAAAAAms/PunRKTH_wno/s1600/IMG_6191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IglFLl76-kE/U3sdobPIx4I/AAAAAAAAAms/PunRKTH_wno/s1600/IMG_6191.JPG" height="466" width="640" /></a></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KubDaaH8Oog/U3tGWuM27WI/AAAAAAAAAno/DvwdRaZUwks/s1600/IMG_6192.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KubDaaH8Oog/U3tGWuM27WI/AAAAAAAAAno/DvwdRaZUwks/s1600/IMG_6192.JPG" height="502" width="640" /></a><br />
<b>Step 3</b><br />
Fold up the sides. Glue together, so that the bottom piece overlaps the two side triangles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0L_ctalPtyo/U3sdp4GzaoI/AAAAAAAAAm0/9qi5DVx5FK4/s1600/IMG_6193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0L_ctalPtyo/U3sdp4GzaoI/AAAAAAAAAm0/9qi5DVx5FK4/s1600/IMG_6193.JPG" height="466" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 4</b><br />
If the original fold-line feels flimsy or has staple holes, reinforce it with a strip of packing tape and trim the edges.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLPBFYaGOMk/U3sdrbSh2qI/AAAAAAAAAm8/1_JQ8sNzQLs/s1600/IMG_6194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLPBFYaGOMk/U3sdrbSh2qI/AAAAAAAAAm8/1_JQ8sNzQLs/s1600/IMG_6194.JPG" height="498" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_aYDQLNmGzY/U3sds2L8HDI/AAAAAAAAAnE/K8pj7FS7Dt4/s1600/IMG_6195.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_aYDQLNmGzY/U3sds2L8HDI/AAAAAAAAAnE/K8pj7FS7Dt4/s1600/IMG_6195.JPG" height="496" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Step 5</b><br />
Add some cute shipping labels and you're done! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L6tG_N2H95M/U3sduaTXRqI/AAAAAAAAAnM/IfLfMdIltgs/s1600/IMG_6196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L6tG_N2H95M/U3sduaTXRqI/AAAAAAAAAnM/IfLfMdIltgs/s1600/IMG_6196.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
