My Core Style - Wardrobe Architect

Over the past few weeks, I have been following along with Sarai's Wardrobe Architect Series over at Coletterie. The aim of the series is to help each person develop a totally functional wardrobe that reflects their own personal style. By defining which colours, patterns and shapes make us feel certain things, we should be able to create a wardrobe filled with functional quality pieces, and prevent all of those future dollars and hours wasted making or buying items that are never worn.

I have enjoyed reading about everyone's different styles and colour palettes, so I thought I'd share a little of where I'm at so far. Putting together a style board was very helpful. You can see the full board on my Pinterest, here. There should really be a third collage that covers Summer/festivals, as that's a huge part of how my love of colour and fashion really developed. Right now, though, it's way too cold to be thinking of such things.

So far, I would describe my style as: warm, saturated, cute (but not cutesie) and, most importantly, comfortable.

My colour palette came as no real surprise: mostly saturated, warm-spectrum colours. Dark neutrals with lots of grey, very few pastels, and none of this coral, camel or beige stuff that everyone else seems to love so much :P

If you're interested in refining your own wardrobe, and don't have the time or effort for style boards, a simple colour scheme really is worthwhile. Already it has prevented me from several bad fabric purchases!

Has anyone else been following this series, or going through a similar process on their own? I'd love to hear about your discoveries!

I didn't know about the Wardrobe Architect Series, thanks for introducing me to it! I LOVE your style boards, especially the one with the warm colors. I still don't really know what my style is but I have spent a lot of time thinking about what my color palette is. I now know I'm a 'spring' type, so fresh, bright and warm colors look great on me, while greys and cooler colors don't. I really have to check out the Wardrobe Architect posts now :)

Yay! I'm glad this post is interesting!

I had been feeling so unsure of myself style-wise for a really long time, and then I found this post: http://closetcasefiles.com/multiple-identities/

I really like the idea of having different identities that need different styles. No matter how much I try to change it, there will always be days where I only want pajama pants - I might as well accept it and make some cute ones! :P

I have never really looked into that seasonal types thing. Apparently I'm a 'Clear Winter' type, although even that recommends pastels, which always make me feel like a potato!

I started with the series as well and it is so much fun! Oh yes, I can live whole weekends in pajamas!
About the seasonal types - I actually think the link she has in the series doesn't work at all. I only get wrong types there. Generally the spring and autumn types are all for warm colors. Spring is bright warm, Autumn is muted/muddy warm. Winter and summer are the cold colors (gray, black, dusty pink, taupe, turquoise).
How I did it: I picked out a lot of different fabrics and clothes in very different colors. Then I held each up to my face and took a self portrait. If you compare the photos afterwards you should see a difference in how healthy and glowing your skin looks depending on the different fabrics. I'd always thought I would be an autumn but I'm actually a spring, the really fresh, lush colors make my face look rosy.
